Defense Ministers of China and Belgium Hold Talks

Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian held talks with Belgian Minister of Defense Andre Flahaut in Beijing on Monday.

Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian held talks with Belgian Minister of Defense Andre Flahaut in Beijing on Monday.

Chi, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, said Sino-Belgian ties had developed smoothly in recent years due to the joint efforts of both countries, with fruitful cooperation in various fields.

China appreciated Belgium's adherence to the one-China policy and was ready to boost friendly cooperation with Belgium.

The exchanges and cooperation between the two armed forces promoted mutual trust, confidence and friendship, he stressed, adding China valued its military ties with Belgium and was ready to consolidate and improve this relationship in the new century.

Flahaut said China, as an important country in the world, played a significant role in the international community. The two armed forces each had its own style. Their exchanges and cooperation, including high-level meetings, helped mutual understanding develop between them.

He said he was confident friendly cooperation between the two countries and armies would improve and was willing to personally work for this.

The two parties also exchanged views on counter-terrorism and other international issues of common concern.
