Chinese Olympic champion Kong Linghui grabbed his first victory in the 2002 ITTF Men's World Cuptable tennis Jinan on Friday.

The sixth-ranked Kong, beaten by his teammate Ma Lin in a group B match last night, found his form against Hugo Hoyama of Brazil, winning 4-1 (11-2, 9-11, 11-7, 11-6, 12-10).

World number seven Kalinikos Kreanga of Greece, second seed in group D, dashed African champion Segun Toriola's hope of taking one victory in the World Cup by beating the Nigerian 4-2 in 45 minutes.

Belgian veteran Jean-Michel Saive overcame Johnny Huang of Canada 4-2 while Chinese Taipei's Chuan Chin-Yuan cruised past Oceanian winner Russell Lavale of Australia 4-1.
