Beijing Municipal Higher People's Court rejected on Friday the appeal filed by a former leading banker against a 15-year prison sentence for taking bribes.

Zhu Xiaohua, former chairman of the China Everbright Group, was found to have taken about 4.059 million yuan (489,157 US dollars) in bribes from 1997 to 1999 when he was leading the group that controls one of the country's largest banks.

The Beijing Municipal No. 1 Intermediate People's Court passed the verdict on October 10 after the first trial, when it was also ruled that all Zhu's personal property be confiscated.

The Beijing Municipal Higher People's Court ruled on Friday that the verdict was justifiable and properly supported by the adequate, irrefutable evidence and therefore should be upheld.
