Chinese Premier Meets With Ghanaian President

The Chinese government is willing to join hands with the Ghanaian government to raise bilateral friendly and cooperative ties to a higher level, Premier Zhu Rongji said on Friday in Beijing.

The Chinese government is willing to join hands with the Ghanaian government to raise bilateral friendly and cooperative ties to a higher level, Premier Zhu Rongji said on Friday in Beijing.

Premier Zhu made the remarks in a meeting with Ghanaian President John Kufuor, who is here for a state visit at the invitation of Chinese President Jiang Zemin.

Zhu said the Chinese people are the Ghanaian people's friends and will offer any help to Ghana whenever necessary.

In recent years, bilateral trade has been on the rise, Zhu said,and the two sides have scored marked achievements in bilateral cooperation in various fields, such as agriculture and infrastructure construction.

In the future, Zhu said, China and Ghana will explore new approaches for cooperation, and bilateral trade and economic cooperation will be all the more fruitful.

President Kufuor, on his part, said his current visit to China is of historic significance to the Ghanaian government and people.

Ghana and China have been enjoying a traditional friendship, the president said, adding that he hopes to bring Ghana-China relations into a new stage.
