Li Peng Congratulates Famous University on Anniversary

The Renmin University of China has a long glorious history and has contributed much to the overall development of the country, says Li Peng.

The Renmin University of China has a long glorious history and has contributed much to the overall development of the country, says Li Peng.

The chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC) was speaking at a ceremony on Friday in Beijing to mark the 65th anniversary of the prestigious university's founding.

Social sciences and natural sciences were both driving forces for the development of society, Li said. The university should strive for more successes in the fields of liberal arts, social sciences and management sciences, which were its strong points.

The Renmin University of China has produced about 170,000 graduates since its establishment. Li said he expected it make further contributions to the country and society.

Li also sent a congratulatory message to the Hebei Teachers' University to celebrate the centenary of its founding.
