Official Hails Importance of Election of Macao NPC Deputies

The election of deputies of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) to the 10th National People's Congress (NPC) of China is of great importance, Secretary-General of the NPC Standing Committee He Chunlin noted Saturday in Macao.

He made the remarks while chairing the first meeting of the Conference for Electing the Deputies of the Macao SAR to the 10th NPC.

The election is beneficial to the long-term prosperity and stability of the Macao SAR and the participation of the Chinese citizens in Macao in administration of state affairs, he said.

The Macao compatriots are masters of both the Macao SAR and the state, he added.

Three years after Macao's return to the motherland, the principles of "one country, two systems", "Macao people governing Macao" and a high degree of autonomy as well as the Basic Law have been fully implemented, he said.

The Macao SAR government, with support from the central government, has united every walk of life in overcoming various difficulties, thereby maintaining Macao's social stability and economic expansion.

Speaking of the country as a whole, He pointed out that China is enjoying political stability, economic growth, ethnic unity andsocial progress.

Against this backdrop, the election of the Macao SAR deputies to the 10th NPC is of specially profound significance, He Chunlin emphasized. The term of Macao deputies to the Ninth NPC will expire next March.

He believed that members of the electoral conference will be highly responsible for the state and Macao, use their power in line with law and perform their duties.
