A Palestinian National Authority (PNA) official said on Sunday the new Israeli government that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is forming "is becoming an extremist right-wing government that would be against peace."

Secretary General of the PNA Cabinet Ahmed Abdel Rahman said that the joining of former Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in the Israeli government as foreign minister "would shorten the age of this government."

"It would be a government that intensifies aggression against the Palestinian people, and the fact that Netanyahu joins the government shows the status of extremism that dominates the right wing in Israel," said Abdel Rahman.

He said that the Israeli government "is totally becoming a groupof extremists trying to take over Israel by all its power," adding that this government "would fail to make peace and achieve security in the region."

Earlier reports said Netanyahu agreed in principle to serve as foreign minister, but set a precondition demanding Sharon agree to hold early elections and that their cooperation continue after the elections.

In an interview with Israel TV, the famous hawkish politician said Sharon has to support the removal of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat from his office, and to make a clear outlining of the future geographic positioning of the security barrier between Israel and the Palestinians.

Moreover, Netanyahu stressed that Sharon has to reach an understanding that a Palestinian state would not be established.

In response, Sharon said he welcomed Netanyahu's decision to join the government, but he was considering how to respond to his conditions.
