China's sugar output in the year from 2002 to 2003 is expected to reach a record high of 9.5 million tons, an official said Sunday.
Jia Zhiren, president of the China Sugar Industry Association, made the prediction at a national conference on sugar production and sales, which concluded Sunday in Kunming, capital city of
Yunnan
Province, southwest China.
The domestic market has been under pressure since the expected output is one million tons more than last year while the sugar price is low at the world market, said Jia.
Representatives from across the country to the meeting discussed measures to stabilize sugar price at the domestic market.
According to a source with the meeting, the participants suggested the total amount of sugar at the domestic market and that of imported products be controlled, export encouraged and domestic demand expanded.
