China to Produce Pajero Family Jeep

Hunan Changfeng Automotive Co. Ltd.and Japan's Mitsubishi signed a technology transfer agreement Monday for the production of the Pajero I0, China's first family jeep.

Hunan Changfeng Automotive Co. Ltd.and Japan's Mitsubishi signed a technology transfer agreement Monday for the production of the Pajero I0, China's first family jeep.

Specially designed by Mitsubishi in accordance with China's road conditions and consumer behaviors, the Pajero IO model will satisfy the needs of family, business and recreation.

The four-cylinder motor vehicle has an engine of 1.99 liters and consumes seven liters of gasoline per hundred kilometer.

Expected to roll off the production line in Autumn of 2003, thefour wheel-drive jeep is equipped with a safety airbag and an ABS system to meet safety standards.

Hunan Changfeng started making Mitsubishi's Pajero models in 1997 and Mitsubishi holds 20 percent of the shares of Changfeng, whose Pajero production makes up nearly one third of China's domestic jeep market.
