Three survivors, including a baby, have been rescued from the crash site in critical conditions, an official said.

The Cassa BN-2A crashed two kilometers west of the airport's runway due to mechanical problem, another source reported.

Its pilot, Capt. Yusuf, reported a mechanical problem before calling for an emergency landing.

The plane belongs to local company Dirgantara Air Service and used to serve 150-km Tarakan-Long Bawan route in East Kalimantan, which shares land borders with Malaysia's Serawak.
