The Sweden-based Volvo Construction Equipment Group has vowed to bring more state-of-the-art products and services to China, the world's fastest growing construction equipment market.

After reviewing global markets, Volvo found China was the only market to maintain steady growth over the years, said the company's international marketing president Lars Haglund.

The company therefore expected to expand its share of the global market by boosting its presence in China, he said.

As a first step, Volvo set up its China operation in Shanghai earlier this year, obtaining 66,000 square meters of land for a plant in the Pudong New District, he added.

Haglund and his colleagues are in Shanghai to attend an ongoinginternational trade fair on construction and engineering equipment, known as BAUMA China 2002.

The event, organized by Munich Trade Fairs Consultancy International, has drawn over 400 leading construction and engineering equipment manufacturers from across the world. Volvo is displaying 15 advanced products.

As the world's fourth largest construction equipment manufacturer, Volvo currently takes up 5 percent of the global market.
