China's media industry will in coming five years foster a certain number of large trans-regional and inter-trade groups which are of relatively strong competitiveness and influence both at home and abroad and further joins world advanced ranks, said Xu Guangchun, director of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television.

Xu made the remark at the closing ceremony of the seventh annual meeting of the International Council of the Museum of Television and Radio, November 7 in Beijing.

The establishment of a socialist market economy and its further development requires corresponding development of the media industry, Xu pointed out, and the rapid development of high technology has provided possibility for the modernization of the industry. Meanwhile, with China's WTO entry and its opening wider to the outside world, Chinese media is confronted with competition from large foreign media groups.

All these requires Chinese media to solve as quickly as possible its internal problems-such as rigid, closed management system, low-level operation and narrow vision-seize opportunities and face challenges. It should further emancipate the mind, speed up innovations, reforms and make every effort to push forward the undertaking.

Along with the global economic resurgence and adoption of new technology, the radio, film and television industry will surely enjoy a further development through its reform and regrouping, Xu added.
