An Arab follow-up committee convened a meeting Saturday evening to mull the issues of Palestine and Iraq, Egypt's official MENA news agency reported.

Later on, Arab foreign ministers will hold a consultative meeting to prepare for an emergency meeting due on Sunday, MENA said.

The follow-up committee, comprising foreign ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Yemen, Jordan, Syria, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Oman and Palestine, was formed to help implement measures adopted at an Arab summit in Beirut, Lebanon in late March.

The emergency meeting comes at a time when Israel's politics have experienced a drastic change and a US-proposed UN resolution seeking an enhanced weapons inspection regime in Iraq has been approved.

The UN Security Council on Friday unanimously adopted a US-drafted resolution on Iraq seeking a tougher weapons inspection regime to disarm Baghdad.

"Further material breach" of Iraq's obligations would incur "serious consequences," the resolution warned.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri, who is here for the emergencymeeting, said on Saturday in response to the new UN resolution the international community has defeated a US scheme to attack Iraq under the pretext of the United Nations Security Council.

"The world community has also rejected the US cravings for war,"he told reporters.
