Yangtze River Experts Discuss Hydrographic Cooperation

Experts from 19 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions along the Yangtze River have completed a two-day meeting in Yichang of central China's Hubei Provinceon Sunday to discuss for the first time how to share high quality hydrographic information.

Experts from 19 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions along the Yangtze River have completed a two-day meeting in Yichang of central China's Hubei Provinceon Sunday to discuss for the first time how to share high quality hydrographic information.

The discussion follows last month's start of implementation of a new Water Law, which calls for greater hydrographic cooperation along China's longest river.

Yue Zhongming, head of the Yangtze River Hydrology Bureau, saida new cooperative mechanism will be set up to share hydrographic information, provide digital information and introduce advanced technology.

The experts said improving cooperation will help fight droughts,control flooding and use river water more reasonably along the Yangtze.

The experts came from Qinghai, Yunnan, Sichuan, Shanghai, the Tibet Autonomous Region, Shaanxi, Guizhou, Fujian and others.
