China has named an eight-member squad for the 36th World Gymnastics Championships slated for November 20-24 in Debrecen, Hungary.

The men's squad, led by Olympic and world champions Li Xiaopeng, Huang Xu and Yang Wei, will vie for all six men's apparatus finals. It also consists of three young gymnasts Xiao Qin, Teng Haibin and Liang Fuliang.

"With focus on the Athens Olympic Games in 2004, we hope they will perform their form and produce good results," Ye Zhennan, manager of the Chinese gymnastics team, told Xinhua on Tuesday.

Zhang Nan and Kang Xin, who have made their names at the recently-concluded Busan Asian Games by winning a hatful of golds, will compete in all four women's disciplines but vault.

Yang Yun, who planned to take part in the women's vault, and Huang Jing, member of the Asian Games champion team, both pulled out of the squad due to injury.

This year's world championships is for individual events only. There is no all-round or team event in Debrecen.
