Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Foreign Minister Binyamin Netanyahu Sunday had a sharp exchange at weekly cabinet meeting over how to respond to Friday's shooting in the West Bank city of Hebron, Israel Radio reported.

Following reports on Hebron shooting from Israeli Chief of General Staff Moshe Ya'alon and Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz, Netanyahu demanded that Israel expel Arafat, recapture all of the Palestinian territories and establish a security buffer zone.

Sharon responded that crushing the Palestinian National Authority would require calling up the reserves. As for the issue of expelling Arafat, Sharon said problems could not be solved by slogans.

Sharon has promised US President George W. Bush that he will notexpel Arafat as the United States tries to rally Arab support for apossible strike against Iraq.

On Friday night, Palestinian militants opened fire at a convoy of Israeli soldiers and Jewish settlers who were on their way to pray near the Jewish settlement of Keryat Araba in Hebron, killing 12 people and wounding 20 others.
