All Chinese weightlifters attending the upcoming world championships in Warsaw arrived here early Monday morning, three hours later than scheduled, while their baggages were left behind.

The eight male and seven female athletes, who will compete in five of the eight men's categories and all the seven women's categories, had their arrival delayed, with all of their luggages left in Copenhagen, Deanmark, due to a strike there.

Most of the lifters who have the strength to clinch one third of the 45 golds at stake in the championships looked tired and upset and were nearly empty-handed while walking out of the Warsaw airport.

All the competitions of the 72nd men's and 15th women's World Weightlifting Championships will run from November 19 to 26 and the opening ceremony is scheduled for Monday.

"The incident will definitely have impact on our athletes and their training today," Wu Shude, the head coach of the Chinese team, told Xinhua at the airport.

"We have spent more than 18 hours on the journey. But the more difficulties we come across, more courage is needed," added Wu, one of the Chinese weightlifting legends with numerous world titles.
