Nepali King Nominates New Cabinet Members

Nepali King Gyanendra Monday nominated 13 new ministers and assistant ministers, enlarging the month-old Cabinet to 22 members, the secretariat of the Royal Palace announced Monday afternoon.

Nepali King Gyanendra Monday nominated 13 new ministers and assistant ministers, enlarging the month-old Cabinet to 22 members, the secretariat of the Royal Palace announced Monday afternoon.

The king added 13 new faces in the Council of Ministers, with eight new ministers and five assistant ministers in the cabinet.

The new ministers includes Ramesh Nath Pandey, minister for information and communications and general administration; Devi Prasad Ojha, minister for education and sports; Narayan Singh Pun,minister for physical planning and works; Badri Narayan Basnet, minister for land reform and forest and soil conservation; Kamal Chaulagain labour, minister for population and environment; Kuber Sharma, minister for culture, tourism and civil aviation; Mahesh Lal Pradhan, minister for industry, commerce and supplies; and Dipak Gyawali, minister for water resources.

The new assistant ministers are Rabi Bhakta Shrestha, assistantminister for culture, tourism and civil aviation; Jagat Bahadur Gurung, assistant minister for industry; Rabindra Khanala, assistant minister for education and sports; Asarfi Shah, assistant minister for local development; and Prakash Chitrakar, assistant minister for land reform and management.

Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand will continue to look after the Defense Ministry and the royal palace affairs.

On Oct. 4, Nepali King Gyanendra announced ousting then Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and dissolving the Council of Ministers. The king appointed a cabinet led by Prime Minister Chand on Oct. 11.
