28 Rebels Killed by Army in Northern Uganda

The Uganda People's Defense Forces(UPDF) soldiers have killed 28 Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebelsin battles in northern district of Pader, the Ugandan army announced on Tuesday.

The Uganda People's Defense Forces(UPDF) soldiers have killed 28 Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebelsin battles in northern district of Pader, the Ugandan army announced on Tuesday.

The fighting took place on Monday evening at Kamon-Ojwii village in Agago country of Pader district, Captain Fred Lugadya, an officer from the UPDF fourth division was quoted as saying.

The officer said the army also captured seven light machine guns from the rebels.

However, the officer said the UPDF lost four of their fighters during the fight.

Seven UPDF soldiers were also seriously injured in the clashes,he added.

The UPDF on Monday captured two rebels and rescued 63 abducteesduring battles in two other northern districts of Gulu and Kitgum.

LRA rebels, based in southern Sudan, have killed tens of thousands civilians and forced another 800,000 to flee their homesin northern Uganda in the last 16 years.

UPDF Commander Major General James Kazini said last weekend that LRA rebels had lost all bases and restored to attacking villages from where they looted food, medicine and money for survival.

"Rebel leader Joseph Kony will be dead or captured by December,this year," he said.
