A high-performance real-time simulation computer, developed by the School of Computer Science, National University of Defense Technology, passed appraisal Monday by a panel of experts in Changsha, capital of central China's Hunan Province.

According to China Youth Daily, experts on the appraisal panel held that the new computer system, which has many applications from high technology to the environment, has met international advanced standards in terms of overall technical performance.

The fourth generation of its kind, the newest system can produce huge economic and social benefits with its ability to be used in such high-tech fields as aerospace and in common tasks such as the utilization of water resources and the training of automobile drivers.

The computer system, named "Yinhe(YH-AStar)", was developed over a three-year period by workers with the computer school of the National Defense Science and Technology University.

During its trial operation, the new computer was used to carry out repeated successful real-time simulation experiments on the carrier rocket for China's "Shenzhou" manned spaceship, said an engineer who is in charge of the new computer's development.

Noted for high extensibility, high simulative efficiency and steady operational reliability, not only will this system meet the requirements for real-time simulation experiments in cutting-edge scientific research such as aviation and space technology, but is also bound to play a role in many popular simulation-applied fields, including water resources controlling, motor driving training etc.
