China is willing to further develop its cooperation with Mauritania to boost friendly ties between the two countries, said Chinese Vice-Premier Qian Qichen in Beijing on Wednesday.

Qian made the remarks in a meeting with Mohamed Ould Tolba, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

Qian said the friendly cooperation between China and Mauritania had developed smoothly since they established diplomatic relations in 1965.

China appreciated and thanked Mauritania's adherence to the "one-China" policy and its support on issues like Taiwan and human rights, the vice-premier said.

Qian also briefed Tolba on the just-concluded 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. Tolba extended his congratulations on the meeting's success.

Tolba said Mauritania was grateful to China for its prolonged, selfless assistance and help, adding that his government and people treasured their friendship with China and were willing to learn from China's experience.

Tolba, who arrived in China on Monday, is visiting the country at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan.
