Iran not to Allow Use of Its Territorial Waters for War

Iranian Navy Commander Rear-Admiral Abbas Mohtaj has said his country will never allow any other countries to use its territorial waters to wage war, local press reported on Thursday.

Iranian Navy Commander Rear-Admiral Abbas Mohtaj has said his country will never allow any other countries to use its territorial waters to wage war, local press reported on Thursday.

"The Iranian naval forces are capable enough to encounter any unexpected events and defend the country's territorial waters," theNavy commander said.

Under international regulations, a country's territorial waters can only be used for peaceful purposes, he said.

Iran has launched joint operations with other countries of the region to control the sea, he said, adding that to maintain defensereadiness, the Iranian naval forces have conducted some 16 war games this year.

"We have to avoid publicizing our military manoeuvres due to thesensitive situation in the region," he explained.
