Chinese lifter Liu Xia grabbed the women's 63kg class snatch gold at the weightlifting worlds in WARSAW on Thursday.

Liu, 21, lifted the weights of 100kg, 105kg and 107.5kg in her three attempts to ease to the top of the podium. But her best result today was still 5.5kg short of the world record set by her compatriot Chen Xiaomin at the Sydney Olympic Games.

Liu, also the champion at the Busan Asian Games, was challenged by Anastasia Tsakiri of Greece in the first two attempts in which the Greek overcame 102.5kg and 105kg.

However, Tsakiri failed on 107.5kg in her third attempt and saw no chance to make use of her 0.55kg bodyweight advantage over Liu.

Tsakiri took the silver while Gergana Kirilova of Bulgaria collected the bronze with 102.5kg.
