PLA Official Meets Spanish, Croatian Guests

Xiong Guangkai, deputy chief of the general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), held separate meetings here Thursday with Admiral Francisco Torrente Sanchez, chief of the Spanish Naval Staff, and Brigadier General Josip Stimac, commander of the Croatian Military Air Force.

During his meeting with Torrente, General Xiong said the bilateral relations between China and Spain have experienced smooth development since the forging of their diplomatic ties. China values the important role of Spain in international affairs and would like to further promote bilateral exchanges and cooperation, including military cooperation, he added.

In the course of his meeting with Brigadier General Josip Stimac, Xiong said China and Croatia have a traditional friendshipand that China attaches great importance to the growth of its friendly relations with Croatia.

China's armed forces are ready to develop its overall friendly and cooperative relations with their counterparts in Spain and Croatia on the basis of mutual respect and mutual benefit, he stressed.

He also briefed the guests on the just-ended 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
