China strongly condemns the suicide bombing in Jerusalem on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said Friday.

Kong Quan made the remark when asked to comment on the suicide bombing that killed 11 people and wounded dozens, on the large-scale retaliatory actions targeting Palestine ordered by Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and on Israeli troops re-entering Bethlehem.

Kong said China strongly denounces the suicide bombing and calls once again on both Israel and Palestine to avoid any reoccurrence of similar tragedies by exercising the utmost restraint to halt the vicious cycle of violence.

China hopes that both Israel and Palestine will abide by relevant UN resolutions, cooperate with the international community in their peace promoting efforts, and settle their disputes through political negotiations, Kong said.
