Chinese Li Wins Men's 77kg Snatch Gold at Weightlifting Worlds

Chinese strongman Li Hongli grabbed the men's 77kg snatch gold with 172.5kg on Friday at the weightlifting worlds held in Warsaw, Poland.

Chinese strongman Li Hongli grabbed the men's 77kg snatch gold with 172.5kg on Friday at the weightlifting worlds held in Warsaw, Poland.

Li, 22, snatched the weight of 165kg, 170kg and 172.5kg in his three attempts while Bulgarian world record holder Plamen Zhelyazkov made another stun to the spectators with three failures in the three attempts.

Chinese female lifter Liu Chunhong, the snatch, jerk and total world records holder of the women's 69kg category, had surprised all with three failures in the snatch competition today.

Another Bulgarian lifter Georgi Markov, 24, posed a bit threat to Li when he lifted 170kg in his third attempt with bodyweight advantage.

However, Li gave up the chance to challenge the world record of173kg set by Kazakh Serey Filomonov at Busan Asiad. He tried 172.5kg instead of 175kg and made it in his third attempt.

Markov took the silver. Hossein Barkhah of Iran got the bronze with 165kg and bodyweight advantage.
