The three gold medals of men's 77kgsnatch, jerk and total were split by three countries at the ongoing World Weightlifting Championships Friday in Warsaw, Poland.

Chinese strongman Li Hongli, 22, grabbed the snatch gold with 172.5kg to fulfill his dream of becoming a world champion.

Li said, "It was the first time for me to claim a title at world championships. I am strong in this event but there are also many strong opponents in this category."

Li snatched 165kg, 170kg and 172.5kg in his three attempts while Bulgarian world record holder Plamen Zhelyazkov made anotherstun to the spectators with three failures in the three attempts.

Another Bulgarian lifter Georgi Markov, 24, posed a bit threat to Li when he lifted 170kg in his third attempt with bodyweight advantage.

However, Li gave up the chance to challenge the world record of173kg set by Kazakh Serey Filomonov at Busan Asiad. He tried 172.5kg instead of 175kg and made it in his third attempt.

Li said, "I took part in the Busan Asian Games where I got the gold. So I did not have enough time to receive systematic trainings before this world championships."

"But I tried my best to compete in today's competitions," he added.

In the jerk competition, Oleg Perepetchenov of Russia clinched the gold with 202.5kg, 7.5kg less than his own world record of 210kg.

After failing in his first attempt on 202.5kg, Perepetchenov, who took the silver with 200kg at the 2001 world championships in Turkey, overcame the winning weight in his second attempt. He failed to lift 207.5kg in his third attempt.

Finishing second in the snatch and third in the jerk, Georgi Markov of Bulgaria won the total gold with a combined weight of 370kg, 7.5kgs less than the world record set by Zhelyazkov.

Markov said, "I was not in my best form today as my back was hurt 20 days before the championships began."
