Four people died and one seriously injured in a blast at a factory in Panyu District of Guangzhou City in south China's Guangdong Province Friday morning.

The accident occurred in a bread additive factory on the BaishaRoad. A witness said 10 people were hit down to the ground when the blast occurred. The 200-square-meter factory was a complete mess with walls and everything inside the workshop gone, except the reinforced steel bars.

More than 100 police officers and fire engines rushed to the spot. Some 1,000 residents living in the region were immediately evacuated to safe areas.

Initial police investigation showed the blast was led by raw additive dust.

The local government held an emergency meeting Friday afternoon, calling for all work units to attach great importance to production safety and conduct check-up on dangerous goods and oil warehouses.
