Egypt on Saturday denied a report that the United States has requested Arab cooperation in a possible war against Iraq.

"I haven't heard such a thing," Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher said, when commenting on a report by the Arabic-language al-Jazeera TV channel on Thursday.

The report said the United States has written to Egypt and 10 other Arab countries to learn about their ideas on cooperation in awar against Iraq.

On Nov. 13, Iraq's ruling Revolutionary Command Council (RCC) agreed to accept UN Security Council Resolution 1441, which was unanimously approved by the Security Council five days earlier.

The UN resolution requires Iraq provide, not later than 30 days,a "currently accurate, full and complete" declaration of all aspects of its programs to develop weapons of mass destruction and systems to deliver them.

"Further material breach" of Iraq's obligations would incur "serious consequences," the resolution warned.

Arab countries have welcomed Iraq's acceptance of the resolution, hoping that the Iraqi move will help save the Mideast region from a war.
