Commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution's Guards Corps, brigadier general Rahim Safavi, said on Sunday that the United States is seeking to undermine Iran's security by invading Iraq.

Addressing Iran's volunteer Basij militias who staged protest against US policies on the Middle East, Safavi said "America is intending to endanger Iran's security by occupying Iraq and creating crisis and tensions in Tehran's relations with other countries of the world."

The military official urged the Basij forces to maintain their defense preparedness so that they could "resist threats from the United States and Israel."

Meanwhile, Iran's former President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani tolda seminar of the militia forces on Sunday that the Basij must remain alert against enemies' plots to widen dispute among people on certain issues.

Iran became outraged after US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said recently that he saw signs of an early overthrow of Iran by the Iranian people.
