More than a thousand people competing for 56 vacancies at the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committe have taken a paper exam of their foreign language and comprehensive knowledge in the Chinese capital.

These applicants have beaten more than 25 hundred others to enter this round. The foreign languages tested are English and French. Of course, each candidate only needs to demonstrate his or her proficiency in either one. The exam is said to emphasize on abilities, requesting the applicant to come up with innovative solutions to particular cases here and there.

Reports say most of the applicants are young and hold very high degrees of education. Some are university professors, some are multi-national company executives and some are returnees from overseas studies.

No wonder the pre-exam notification had to remind them to ride not to drive to the testing venue because of lack of parking space.

The top five finishers in each position's competition after this round will enter the interview round early next month, with the eventual winners taking the 56 positions in January.
