Liang Guanglie, chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), met Monday with Dinash Singh Chauhan, commander-in-chief of the Central Command of India.

Liang, also a member of the Central Military Commission of theCommunist Party of China, said that in 1996, when Chinese President Jiang Zemin visited India, the two countries established constructive and cooperative ties which guided the development of bilateral relations, and in 2000 Indian President Raman Narayana confirmed during his visit to China that the two countries would continue to abide by the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence and not regard each other as a threat.
