The Communist Party of China (CPC) will further take part in international cooperation in a wider range, and enhance its ties with foreign political parties, said Cai Wu, visiting deputy head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee.

"Based on thorough study and accurate understanding of the guidelines of the recently concluded 16th CPC National Congress, we will unswervingly uphold the independent foreign policy of peace and further develop our exchanges and cooperation with political parties and organizations in various countries and regions," Cai said in an interview with Xinhua Tuesday in Bangkok.

Cai, who arrived here later last week, represented the CPC at the 2nd International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) here between Nov. 22 and 24 and is paying a visit to Thailand before leaving for the Philippines later Tuesday.

"Many countries, especially those developing ones, are searching for the development modes which fit them best. More frequent contacts and exchanges with political parties in those countries and learning from their experience and lessons will benefit our grand cause of building socialism with Chinese characteristics and that is an area we will focus on in developing CPC's international relations," said the official.

"Secondly, besides enhancing inter-party relations, the CPC will also promote cooperation between civilian groups of China and other countries, such as labor, women and youth organizations, so as to enhance understanding between Chinese people and other nations in the world," Cai said.

"Moreover, we need to focus on developing friendship between China's young generation and their counterparts in the rest of the world so that young politicians and young people in other countries will have a correct understanding of the CPC policies and feel more confident about future relations with China," he noted.

"Another focus area we will work on is to further introduce the CPC's principle of 'peaceful unification' and 'one country, two systems' on the Taiwan issue to our friends in the world and gain their support," Cai said.

Talking about the ICAPP meeting, the CPC representative said Asian political parties attending the conference unanimously spoke highly of the CPC and were fascinated with China's rapid growth in recent years.

"They also paid a great attention to the success of the 16th CPC National Congress and were eager to learn from our experience in developing China's economy and other undertakings," he said.

Delegates of 77 parties from 26 Asian countries attended the meeting. Cai was elected as a member of the ICAPP Standing Committee and delivered a keynote report: "Further Cooperation Among Political Parties of Various Countries and Join Hands in Building A New Asia."

"Many delegates said that the western style of politics does not fit Asia and Asian political parties should adopt an 'Asian way' to find most suitable modes to address common challenges: poverty reduction and development," said Cai.

"They believed that without a strong political leadership the goals of development can not be achieved. And China's success in developing its economy and enhancing social cohesion has already proven that," he noted.

"We think the ICAPP forum has promoted cooperation between Asian political parties in pushing forward regional peace and development beyond ideological difference and it could serve as the 'third track' besides the existing cooperation mechanisms among governments and business sectors in the region," said the official.

On his latest meetings with Thai political party leaders, Cai said the CPC has formed cooperative and friendly relations with all mainstream Thai political parties for over 20 years, and the inter-party ties have played an indispensable role in strengthening all-around cooperation between the two countries.

Cai and his entourage are among the first batch of CPC delegations to visit foreign countries after the 16th CPC National Congress, which was held in Beijing between Nov. 8 and Nov. 14. (Xinhua News)
