Chinese, Swedish Trade Ministers Hold Talks

China and Sweden have smoothly developed their economic and trade relations in recent years, and both countries have cooperated well in finance, Chinese Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Shi Guangsheng said Tuesday.

Shi made the remark in a meeting with Swedish Minister for Industry and Trade Leif Pagrotsky, who came to China at the invitation of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation.

Both sides exchanged views on bilateral economic and trade cooperation and issues of common concern.

Sweden has been China's largest trade partner in northern Europe for years, and has been a quite successful investor in China, said Shi, noting both sides need to study new types of import and export goods so as to further expand trade.

China not only welcomes more investment from Swedish enterprises, but encourages Chinese companies to invest in Sweden,he said.

"China is making it more convenient for foreign enterprises to participate in Olympic construction projects in Beijing and Qingdao," Shi said.

Pagrotsky said the continued growth of the Sweden-China trade volume is linked to the good performance of the Chinese economy. China's entry into the World Trade Organization has provided more opportunities for bilateral economic and trade cooperation, he said.

He said his government is willing to promote Swedish companies' participation in Beijing Olympic construction.

During the talk, Shi answered questions from some Swedish businessmen.
