Farewell Ceremony Held for Late Living Buddha

A ceremony to bid farewell to the body of Living Buddha Bomi Qambalozhub was held Wednesday at the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa, capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region. The Living Buddha reached Nirvana at the Jokhang Temple on the morning of November 20. He was 83.

A ceremony to bid farewell to the body of Living Buddha Bomi Qambalozhub was held Wednesday at the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa, capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region.

The Living Buddha reached Nirvana at the Jokhang Temple on the morning of November 20. He was 83.

Present at the ceremony were Pagbalha Geleg Namgyai, a vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and honorary chairman of the Buddhist Association of China.

Top regional leaders and central government representatives attended the ceremony.

The Living Buddha was born in Zayu County, Tibet, in 1919. He received the highest academic title of Tibetan Buddhism in 1959, became chairman of the Tibet branch of the Buddhist Association of China in 1992, and was vice-chairman of the Consultative Committee of the Buddhist Association of China in 2002.

He was a member of the 7th and 8th national committees of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
