Vice-premier Qian Meets Overseas Chinese Delegates

China hopes that a large-scale organization supporting overseas Chinese in the United States willplay a more important role in promoting a quick reunification of the nation.

China hopes that a large-scale organization supporting overseas Chinese in the United States willplay a more important role in promoting a quick reunification of the nation.

Vice-Premier Qian Qichen made the remarks Wednesday during a meeting with a visiting delegation from the San Francisco Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association.

Qian expressed his appreciation of and admiration for the overseas Chinese carrying forward the traditional values of the Chinese nation in bearing hardships and working hard.

He also expressed his gratitude for their active support of endeavors promoting exchanges and cooperation between China and the United States, supporting the economic development in their homeland and for the reunification of China.

Qian explained China's stand on the Taiwan issue for his guestsand hoped that they would be more active in promoting the reunification of China.

With a history of more than 150 years, the association is a leading traditional organization with a large Chinese membership based in San Francisco, the United States.

The delegation is visiting China at the invitation of the Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs of the State Council.
