PLA General Holds Talks with Namibian Counterpart

Qian Shugen, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), held talks with Peter Nambundunga,chief of general staff of the National Defense Force of Namibia, in Beijing Wednesday.

Qian Shugen, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), held talks with Peter Nambundunga,chief of general staff of the National Defense Force of Namibia, in Beijing Wednesday.

Qian said China and Namibia have cooperated effectively in military areas since the two countries forged diplomatic ties.

The frequent exchanges of visits by high-ranking military officers have promoted mutual understanding and boosted friendly relations between the two armed forces, Qian said, stressing China is willing to develop friendly cooperative military ties in the new century.

He said China and Namibia share common views on many international and regional issues, support each other and cooperate closely in international affairs.

China appreciates the firm support of the Namibian government on such issues as Taiwan and human rights, he added.

Nambundunga said the history of friendship and solidarity between the two countries and their armed forces can be traced back to the Namibian struggle for independence. He expressed the hope that his trip to China will consolidate the friendly and cooperative ties between the two armed forces.
