Residential Fire Kills 8 in East China City

At least eight people died and seven were injured in a big fire that broke out around 2:00 a.m. Thursday in the residential building of a bankrupt factory in Suzhou City, in east China's Jiangsu Province.

At least eight people died and seven were injured in a big fire that broke out around 2:00 a.m. Thursday in the residential building of a bankrupt factory in Suzhou City, in east China's Jiangsu Province.

The dead and injured people made fatal mistakes when trying to escape the fire, according to the rescuers.

The eight deaths were caused by smoke inhalation and seven people received injuries when they jumped out of the burning building.

Six fire-fighting teams rushed to the site and put out the fire in an hour. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

The factory used to produce western musical instruments. All the victims were rural laborers renting rooms in the building owned by the factory.
