US President George W. Bush deplored the bloody attack on an Israeli-owned hotel in Kenya, but said it was too early to blame al-Qaeda terrorist network, the White House said Thursday.

The president was notified by intelligence officials of the suicide bomb attacks on the Paradise Resort Hotel in the Kenyan port city of Mombasa, White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe said at Crawford, Texas, where Bush is spending the Thanksgiving holiday at his ranch.

"The United States government deplores this violence," Johndroesaid. "We stand prepared to offer the governments of Kenya and Israel any assistance necessary in this investigation."

However, the spokesman said, it was "premature to rule al-Qaedain or out" of the attacks.

As many as 16 people are confirmed dead in the Thursday's attacks, said Sulami Yehuda, director of Paradise Hotel. Among thedead, there are 10 local residents, three Israelis including a brother and a sister, and three suicide bombers.

John Malan Sawe, Kenyan ambassador to Israel, said there was "no doubt" that al-Qaeda network was behind the bombing.

"I do believe the people who have been responsible for terrorism all over the world must be the same people who have doneit," Sawe said. "I believe it must be connected to al-Qaeda and it's up to them to deny."
