The China Shenzhen Consumer Procurement Fair opened Friday in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong province, aiming to facilitate retail purchasing in China.

About 31 world-renowned retailers including Wal-mart, Carrefour,Jusco and OBI, along with 83 domestic retailers and shopkeepers, mixed with over 1,000 Chinese manufacturers.

Analysts said the gathering of so many international participants indicates China is becoming an important global manufacturing and purchasing center.

As part of Shenzhen's bid to become an international buying center, the city unveiled a virtual electronic procurement platform, www.ccgpf.com, for the benefit of suppliers and retailers.

Analysts said that against the backdrop of a global plunge in consumption, Chinese products have become increasingly competitive.
