More Foreign Leaders Congratulate Hu on Election as CPC Leader

More leaders of friendly countries and political parties have sent congratulatory messages over the past few days to Hu Jintao on his election as general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

More leaders of friendly countries and political parties have sent congratulatory messages over the past few days to Hu Jintao on his election as general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

British Prime Minister Tony Blair, in his message, expressed his confidence that relations between the two countries will continue to strengthen as Hu leads China into the next phase of reform.

Australian Prime Minister John Howard said his government and he himself are determined to further strengthen the comprehensive cooperation with China and wished Hu new achievements at his new post.

Howard said bilateral relations have undergone outstanding development since the two countries established diplomatic relationship 30 years ago.

Chinese President Jiang Zemin and he himself hold the belief that bilateral relations should be based on mutual respect and the promotion of common interests of both sides, Howard added.

He also said relations between Australia and China should not be confined to be only bilateral as the two countries are also regional partners.

Zine al Abidine ben Ali, chairman of the Democratic Constitutional Rally and president of Tunisia, said his party has solid relations with the CPC, which will benefit the two friendly countries.

Ben Ali pledged to work with Hu to further promote the bilateral relationship.

Congratulating Hu on his election as CPC general secretary, Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov said the two countries and the two peoples have profound historical links and that the Tajik people highly values and treasures the friendly relations and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

He expressed confidence that the friendly relations between the two nations will develop further.

Robert Gabriel Mugabe, president of the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front and president of Zimbabwe, congratulated Hu on his election. He said he was looking forward to close cooperation with Hu in further strengthening relations between the two parties.

Brazilian President Fernando Hendrique Cardoso wished Hu greater success in the lofty and glorious post. Cardoso said he believed that the already friendly and cooperative relations between Brazil and China would be further deepened to promote the development of positive and mutually beneficial strategic partnership between the two states.

US former President George Bush said in his congratulatory message that he believed that his son, President George W. Bush, shares the same view with him that Sino-US relations are very important.

The former president also assured that President George W. Bush and his administration will try to make Sino-US relations head toward positive development.

Vanuatu's Prime Minister and Vanuaaku Party Chairman Edward Nipake Natapei said in a message that he believed the already friendly relationship between the Vanuaaku Party and the CPC will continue to develop to the benefit of the two countries and two peoples.

Jamaican Prime Minister and President of the People's National Party Percival Patterson expressed the hope in his congratulatory message to further enhance and deepen relations between the two governments and the friendly relationship between the two parties.

General Secretary of Rwandan Patriotic Front Charles Murigande extended sincere and warm congratulations on Hu's election as CPC general secretary. He wished that the already sound relationship between the two parties will be further strengthened to the benefit of the two peoples.

A message from the president's office of the Socialist International wished the new collective leadership of the CPC still greater achievements.

Leaders of political parties in Bolivia, Bulgaria, Chile, Colombia, Libya, Malta, Mexico, Nepal, Peru, Romania, Spain and Tunisia also sent their congratulatory messages to Hu on his election.
