Spokesman on Australia's Pre-emptive Strike Proposal

All countries must abide by international law and the United Nations Charter in the fight against terrorism, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said Tuesday.

All countries must abide by international law and the United Nations Charter in the fight against terrorism, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said Tuesday.

when asked to comment on the pre-emptive anti-terrorism strikes proposed by Australian Prime Minister John Howard, Liu said China firmly supports the fight against all forms of terrorism, but strikes should based on conclusive evidence, clear-cut targets and in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and international codes of conduct.

All this is also the common understanding of the international community, he said.
