The first China Shenzhen Consumer Procurement Fair ended Monday in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province, with the signing of purchase contracts worth 2.4 billionyuan (290 million U.S. dollars).

During the four-day fair, which was aimed to promote international purchasing, over 1,000 Chinese manufacturers made deals with international and domestic retailers and shopkeepers.

Analysts said the contracts indicate Chinese manufacturers are becoming more and more competitive in the world market.

As part of Shenzhen's bid to become an international buying center, the city unveiled a virtual electronic procurement platform, www.ccgpf.com, for the benefit of suppliers and retailers.

Such fairs provide a place where suppliers and retailers can establish long-term partnerships, said analysts.

The fair will be an annual event, with the second one to be held next November.
