President Jiang Meets Japanese Mitsubishi Delegation

President Jiang Zemin said Wednesday that he welcomes Japanese businesses including the Mitsubishi Group participating in China's modernization drive at a meeting with the Mitsubishi Group of Japan's Summit Mission to China.

President Jiang Zemin said that he welcomes Japanese businesses including the Mitsubishi Group participating in China's modernization drive.

Jiang made the remarks in Beijing Wednesday at a meeting with the Mitsubishi Group of Japan's Summit Mission to China.

He said China would mainly rely on itself to achieve a well-off society, but at the same time needed to boost cooperation with other countries.

China and Japan were close neighbors and enjoyed a solid foundation for mutually beneficial economic and trade cooperation,he said.

Jiang pointed out that both were Asian countries, and their cooperative, stable and growing bilateral relationship was conducive to peace and stability in Asia and the world at large.

He said he hoped both countries would jointly work to realize this goal in the spirit of "learning from history and facing the future".

Delegation members expressed their desire to continue contributing to China's modernization drive.

They also voiced their congratulations on China's successful bid for hosting the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai.
