Russian President to Visit Ethiopia in 2003

Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay an official visit to Ethiopia in August of 2003, the weekly newspaper Reporter said Wednesday in Addis Ababa.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay an official visit to Ethiopia in August of 2003, the weekly newspaper Reporter said Wednesday in Addis Ababa.

Putin's visit will mainly focus on the military and economic cooperation between the two countries, and his visit is cited as return visit to Ethiopia following the visit by Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi in December, 2001.

The newspaper quoted diplomatic sources as saying that Putin's visit would push the diplomatic relations between the two countries one step ahead.

Russia, in the past years, has been engaging in the construction of Ethiopia, in particular in the field of military and economy.

Last month, Ethiopia has signed an agreement with Russia to cooperate in the fields of trade, agriculture, mining, water resource and health.

A Russian company has demanded the government to invest a sizable amount of money on gas project to jointly with Ethiopian side develop natural gas.
