Japanese Shot Dead in Downtown Manila

A Japanese businessman was gunned down by an unidentified armed man in front of a video-oke bar in Metro Manila's business district of Makati early dawn Friday.

A Japanese businessman was gunned down by an unidentified armed man in front of a video-oke bar in Metro Manila's business district of Makati early dawn Friday.

Superintendent Jovito Gutierrez, Makati police chief, identified the fatality as 43-year-old Tetsuo Momma, the Philippine News Agency reported.

Gutierrez said initial investigation showed that Tetsuo was shot at about 2 a.m. (18:00 GMT, Thursday) when he was about to board his car parked in front of the bar. The suspect came from behind and shot the victim thrice in the back with a .45 cal. pistol.

The suspect also fired on a guard of the bar before he fled. The guard was hit in the left leg.

Police said they are still investigating the motive behind the incident.
