The Port of Tianjin, in north China, signed an agreement with Siemens Dematic China Ltd. recently to become the seventh port in the country to introduce the Radio Frequency Solution for Modern Ports.

The German technology will help improve the management and smooth operation of the first port in China to begin handling containers in 1980.

In meeting with a group of local journalists Wednesday, Helmut Pawlischek, vice president of Siemens China Ltd. and chief executive officer and general manager of Siemens Dematic China Ltd.expressed his satisfaction over the progress the company has made in exploring the Chinese market.

So far, the Siemens Dematic solution has been adopted by six other Chinese ports including Shanghai, Shenzhen, Qingdao and Ningbo.

The technology to be installed at Tianjin Port, at a cost of about 800,000 US dollars, will be quite small and the most advanced of all, according to Pawlischek.

Experts from the Tianjin Port authority said they selected the Siemens Dematic technology out of several overseas and domestic competitors because the Germany-based company is a world leader in the production and logistics business, and over 3,000 Siemens Dematic solutions for different industries have been adopted worldwide.

Siemens Dematic was set up two years ago through a merger with Siemens and is now a subsidiary of the giant transnational Siemens AG.
