The volume of cargo handled by Dalian port, one of China's 10 leading ports, topped 100 million tons for the first 11 months of the year.

This is the first time the 100-year-old port, located in northeast China's Liaoning province, has recorded more than 100 million tons of cargo in a year.

The port is set to handle 108 million tons of cargo by the end of this year, according to sources from the city's port authorities.

Container numbers at the port of Dalian so far this year have increased by 110,000 TEUs from the same period last year. The volume of petroleum products rose by 2.38 million tons.

Improved port facilities and related services are attributed tothe main reason for the increase in the city's cargo volume.

The port has invested a total of three billion yuan (361 million US dollars) in 120 projects over the past five years, equivalent to the combined investment of the previous decade.
