Speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) Ahmed Qurei (Abu Ala) will meet with French President Jacques Chirac on Wednesday, the French Foreign Ministry announced on Monday.

Qurei, now on a private visit to France, will meet French Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin on Tuesday before meeting with Chirac on Wednesday, said Francois Rivasseau, spokesman of the French Foreign Ministry.

He will also meet Jean-Louis Debre and Christian Poncelet, Speakers of the National Assembly and of the Senate, which are two houses of the French parliament.

During the meetings, Qurei and the French authorities will talk about the measures to bring Palestine and Israel back to the way of peace with efforts from the Quartet -- the United Nations, the European Union, the United States and Russia, said the spokesman.

Qurei, who led the Palestinian delegation during the 1993 Israeli-Palestinian peace talks in Oslo, Norway, has been head of the PLC, or the Palestinian parliament, since 1996.
