Chinese Swimmers Look for Experience at IPC Swimming Worlds

Chinese players were looking for both 2004 Olympic berths and competing experienceat the IPC Swimming World Championships, said Chinese chief de mission Zhang Gongjie as the event kicked off Tuesday in Mar del Plata.

Chinese players were looking for both 2004 Olympic berths and competing experienceat the IPC Swimming World Championships, said Chinese chief de mission Zhang Gongjie as the event kicked off Tuesday in Mar del Plata.

"We believe that our players, who are very competitive here, are capable of winning berths for the 2004 Athens Paralympics," said Zhang at the Argentine beach resort.

"And we also expect our young swimmers learn experience at the championships in preparation for the 2008 Games."

There were 31 swimmers from Chinese mainland, 10 from Hong Kongof China and seven from Chinese Taipei participating in the tourney.

The Third IPC Swimming World Championship, attracting over 1,000 swimmers from 55 countries and regions, is a two-phase competition including fourteen categories.

The elimination phase of the event will be held between Dec. 10to 15 and the finals are to be carried out on Dec. 16.

In addition, the First IPC Open Sea World Championships will follow close at heel on Dec. 17 at Playa de Las Tocas beach.
